Towne Lake is one of metro Atlanta’s top master-planned communities. Located approximately 20 miles northwest of Atlanta in southern Cherokee County, Towne Lake was developed by the Means Brothers company in the late 1980s. The purpose was to have an upscale, residential area just off Interstate 575. At that time, most of Cherokee County was undeveloped and it was an ideal location to create a master-planned community north of Atlanta. The goal was to have ample commercial businesses pepper the area as well to make it a full-service, self-contained community of Cherokee County.

Boundaries include Interstate 575 on the east, Towne Lake Pkwy. connecting to Eagle Drive on the south. Bells Ferry Road on the west and Lake Allatoona on the north.

The heavily wooded and rolling Towne Lake site formerly known as the Thousand Acre Woods to long-time locals has undergone extensive land-use studies, market analyses and infrastructure development. The community development zoning designation allowed for parks, common areas, schools, churches and safety facilities, in addition to the single-family, multi-family, light industrial, retail and commercial development designations.

A 60-acre site was donated to Cherokee County for a recreational park. It now includes tennis courts, a walking trail and baseball diamonds. And it is now known as Hobgood Park and has just recently received a major face lift.  It is the largest recreational public park in Cherokee County.   In addition JRC/Towne Lake, Ltd. has donated school sites for a high school, junior high school and elementary schools.

You might be surprised to learn how Towne Lake got its name. The name was created as a reference to its close geographic proximity to Woodstock and Lake Allatoona.  Within Towne Lake, there are two creeks, Rose Creek and Noonday Creek. Both flow northward and empty into the Little River arm of Lake Allatoona.

Now, three decades later, Children reap the benefits of a first class education in the highly rated South Cherokee County Schools.  They attend Bascomb Elementary, ET Booth Middle and Etowah High School on one side of Towne Lake and Carmel Elementary, Woodstock Middle and Woodstock High School in the Deer Run and Towne Lake Hills South area.

The area boasts some of the best schools in metro Atlanta, lush golf courses, and beautiful tree-lined streets within the 16 subdivisions that formally make up Towne Lake.

We are pleased to have several national chain restaurants, a Kroger, a Publix, Walmart, local and franchised banks and credit unions, as well as numerous locally owned businesses all be a part of the Towne Lake experience.

Much of Towne Lake borders Lake Allatoona, one of the most frequently visited recreational lakes in the state of Georgia.   Allatoona Lake features boating, fishing and water skiing, just a wealth of recreational and scenic amenities.

Lake Allatoona offers 12,000 acres of blue water to enjoy year round. There are 13 public beaches. Some are located within campgrounds, for extended stays. Swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, make Lake Allatoona one of the most visited US Army Corps of Engineer lakes in the world.

The Cherokee Outdoor YMCA is located on about 75 acres of the lake and offers a number of youth activities and day camps. Year long sports include spring/fall soccer, summer baseball, and winter basketball or cheer-leading. Equine programs are also offered.

Towne Lake is located within an easy commute to Atlanta's major corporate centers. It offers easy access to I575 and I75, which places it in the heart of Atlanta's continuing northern growth corridor. Towne Lake has created a whole “new Towne” of shopping centers, daily services, medical facilities, restaurants, and entertainment centers in southwest Cherokee. We even have our own 16-screen movie theater.

Interstate 575 runs north through the county, providing very easy access to the Atlanta business and employment markets and to wonderful shopping opportunities around Town Center Mall and the neighboring shopping district. It's only 16 miles to the outer Perimeter I285, home to many big and small name companies that employ thousands.

Our community is well known for its two golf courses. Eagle Watch Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course designed by none other than Arnold Palmer. It is part of Canongate Golf Clubs, a group of private and semi-private golf clubs that are unified by a single membership with access to 26 golf courses at 23 different clubs across central and north Georgia. Our second course, Towne Lake Hills, was built in 1994 by Arthur Hills and is an 18-hole, par 72 course.

The area surrounding Towne Lake boasts many new and more mature home communities as well. One of the newest is BridgeMill, Covering more than 1,700 forested acres along Lake Allatoona and bordering six magnificent miles of scenic shoreline; BridgeMill offers a magnificent natural setting. Beautiful new homes enjoy lake, forest and golf course views and families enjoy a storybook lifestyle. BridgeMill will grow into a town of 2,700 families when completed and will present an environment for the future.

If your idea of an outside activity is playing golf, Cherokee County, has six championship golf courses. Most are located right inside their respective subdivisions. Two of which are signature golf courses, Eagle Watch, which is renowned for it's Arnold Palmer design, and Towne Lake Hills Golf Club- designed by Arthur Hills.
